Potato is mildly acidic and is a natural bleaching agent. Potato is more gentle than lemon so it can be applied on the sensitive skin. Place a thin slice of potato on your underarm and rub it in there for 5 to ten minutes twice a day.

2. Lemon juice.
Lemon is another natural bleacher and it is stronger than potatoes so don’t use it if you have really sensitive skin. Lemon will also naturally exfoliate the skin under your armpits. Just rub the lemon juice under your armpits for a couple minutes and then take rinse it off.

4. Exfoliate With a Lemon and Brown Sugar Scrub.
Dead skin cells can make underarms appear darker so gently exfoliate with lemon which will also bleach the area and some brown sugar. If lemon is too irritating on your skin, you can just use the brown sugar with some olive oil instead.

5. Papaya scrub. Papaya is rich in Papain which removes dirt and dead skin cells. Mash a small chuck up papaya up and leave the papaya on for 20 minutes and wash it off.

6. Cucumber slices are another natural skin lightener. Rub a cucumber slice around your underarms twice a day about ten minutes each time

7. Baking soda acts as both a whitener and exfoliator for your underarms. Just make a paste of baking soda with a little bit of water and rub it in for a few minutes and rinse it off.

8. Try Orange Peels

If you eat a lot of oranges, you can keep those peels to make a skin lightening orange peel paste. When your orange peels are dried up, grind it up to a powder either with a blender or whatever you have and add a small amount of milk to the peel until you create a thick paste. Milk contains lactic acid which is also a lightening agent. Rub the paste into your underarms for about 10 minutes and rinse it off.

Although most dark armpits are caused by dead skin buildup or hyperpigmentation, there are also medical causes of dark armpits and you have to treat the underlying disorder. Some medical conditions that can cause dark underarm skin are diabetes, and endocrine disorders like hypothyroidism, or pituitary gland disorders.

How to Take Care of Your Skin

While your skin is a living organ that constantly regenerates itself, the right care can improve its support, elasticity, and shine.

Skin type and treatments:

There are four general skin types: oily, dry, normal and combination. In addition, it is possible to have sensitive skin along with one of the four general types.

Dry Skin: If your skin has a strong tendency toward dehydration, lacks oil, and has few breakouts if any at all, it is considered dry. In more extreme cases, dry skin lacks elasticity and can be extremely sensitive to the sun, wind, and cold temperatures. Wash your face once a day with a rich, creamy cleanser and warm water.

Treatment: Rinse with warm water and pat your skin dry. Use toner to help with that tight and flaky feeling of dehydration. Avoid toners and makeup that contain alcohol as alcohol-based products have a drying effect on skin. Use a cream-based lotion to hydrate your skin and keep it rejuvenated.

Oily Skin: If your skin is oily, it usually has a lot of shine to it very soon after cleansing and the pores are generally slightly enlarged. It is more prone to pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads than other skin types and is coarser in texture.

Treatment: Your skin tends to attract more dirt than dry skin, so wash your face twice a day with a gentle non-foaming cleanser and warm water. Rinse with warm water. Use an alcohol-free, hydrating toner to help remove additional residue. Oil blotting sheets through out the day can help control shine, and it takes as little as 3 minutes after lunch. Although your skin’s oily, you still must moisturize it with a light moisturizer daily, or your skin will become dry underneath and overcompensate by producing more oil. Using oil as a pre-cleanser to a foam cleanse can also help, as oily skin can be your skin’s way of protecting itself against being stripped of its natural oils by harsh cleansers.

Normal Skin: Some consider normal skin to be combination skin, but it is not. If your skin is oily in the “T zone” and your nose while dry and taut on the cheeks, it is considered normal. It’s also considered normal if it changes with seasons (dryer in winter, oilier in summer). Normal skins can also be ‘Normal-To’s’ as in normal to oily or normal to dry.

Treatment: Wash your face with cleansers that are designed for your normal/normal-to skin type. Wipe an alcohol free, hydrating toner all over the face. Apply moisturizer more frequently to dry skin.

Combination Skin: Combination skin is comprised of two extreme skin types on one face. These situations occur when there is acne and a lot of oil in one area when the rest of the skin is generally dry (no oil).

Two common examples are dry skin with papular and pustular acne on the cheeks or a normal skin with inflamed papular and pustular acne in the chin and mouth area.

Treatment: Tend to each area appropriately as described above. If the acne is severe, consult a dermatologist or esthetician.

Sensitive Skin: Please note that you may have sensitive skin and normal, oily, or dry. If your skin has allergic reactions to beauty products and is usually sensitive to the sun, wind, and cold weather, it is sensitive. Sensitivity can show up in rash, redness, inflammation, acne, and dilated capillaries.

Treatment: Look for cleansers, toners, makeup, and moisturizers that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. Cleanse, tone and moisturize with gentle products everyday. The idea for your skin is to always choose products with a soothing benefit. Some common ingredients to look for are: chamomile, azulene, bisabolol, allantoin, lavender, camphor, calamine, rosemary, thyme, aloe vera, coconut oil etc.

General Tips:

Live a healthy lifestyle. Quit smoking. Few common items age the skin as effectively as tobacco. Eat a healthy diet which includes many fruits and vegetables. Reduce stress when possible.

1. Lemon Juice
A quick and easy solution can be found in your kitchen or your nearest grocery store — lemon juice. Lemons have vitamin C that can lighten dark spots on your face. It’s easy to apply.

  • Put some fresh lemon juice on a cotton ball and rub it directly on the affected skin area.
  • Allow it to dry and then wash it off with plain water.
  • Continue applying this dark spot removal home remedy for at least two weeks to get the desired result.

If you have delicate or sensitive skin, you can dilute the lemon juice with plain water, rosewater, or honey. You can also use lime juice to get rid of black spots, applying it in the same manner as described above.

2. Buttermilk
Buttermilk is also beneficial in getting rid of dark spots. Like lemon juice, it also helps fade blemishes and black spots but without causing burning sensation.

  • Take four teaspoons of buttermilk.
  • Add two teaspoons of fresh tomato juice.
  • Mix the two ingredients (both have excellent bleaching properties) and then apply.
  • Wash it off after 15 minutes.

The lactic acid in milk too, will gradually reduce skin pigmentation, and brighten and tone your overall skin complexion. So, if you do not have buttermilk, simply apply soak a cotton ball in milk and dab it directly on your spots. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and then wash it off Put milk on a cotton ball and dab it directly on your spots. Repeat this procedure twice daily for four to five weeks.

You can also prepare a solution by mixing milk and honey and apply the solution to your dark spots, leaving it on for 10 minutes.

3. Oats
Oatmeal powder is considered good for skin exfoliation. Hence, you can apply an oatmeal mask on your face and neck to remove dead skin and black spots.

  • Grind half a cup of rolled oats.
  • Add three to four tablespoons of lemon juice to make a paste.
  • Scrub it on your skin and wash it off with warm water when it dries.

If it becomes messy, use a clean cloth soaked in warm water to remove the mask. Follow this treatment once or twice a week.

4. Almonds

  • Take 8-10 almonds and soak them in milk overnight.
  • Peel off the skin and grind the almonds in the morning.
  • Now, add one teaspoon sandalwood powder and half a teaspoon honey in it.
  • Mix them to make a fine paste.
  • Apply it on your face.
  • Leave it on for about 30 minutes and then wash it off.

5. Sandalwood

Sandalwood is another effective option.

  • Make a thick paste of sandalwood powder, glycerin and rose water. (If you don’t have rose water, you can use milk or honey.)
  • Apply the thick paste to the affected skin area, leaving it on for a few minutes. Wash off the paste with lukewarm water.
  • Follow this remedy once daily until your black spots vanish completely.

6. Potato
Your vegetable drawer is another source of home remedies for black spots or dark patches. Potatoes can be applied in one of the two ways:

  • Slice up a potato and place one slice directly on the black spots; leave on for a few minutes and then wash your face with lukewarm water.
  • You can also make a face mask by combining grated potato with honey.

Some people have also had success using tomatoes to get rid of dark black spots within a few weeks.

7. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera has many healing properties and is a great natural dark spot corrector.

  • Apply aloe vera juice or gel directly on dark patches and black spots.
  • Gently massage the area with your fingertips for a few minutes.
  • Repeat this once or twice daily for a few weeks to fade skin discolorations.

If it becomes messy, use a clean cloth soaked in warm water to remove the mask. Follow this treatment once or twice a week.

Vitamin E oil and castor oil, too, are useful in getting rid of black spots.

8. Turmeric

Another option is to make a paste of turmeric, honey and olive oil and gently massage it into the affected skin area. Leave it on until it completely dries and then wash the area with water.

9. Papaya

The enzymes in papaya can help even out skin tone and aid in fading black spots. For example, papaya contains papain, an enzyme that exfoliates the skin encouraging production of new, fresher-looking skin. There are two ways that you can use papaya.

  • Apply the pulp of ripe papaya to the skin and leave it on for about 20 minutes; then rinse it off.
  • Another option is to grate green papaya and add lime juice to it. Apply this mixture to black spots and allow it to sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

You can also use papaya skin as an excellent scrub for knees and elbows.

10. Onion Juice
Onion juice — made using a juicer, blender or grater – can be applied in a couple of ways.

  • Dip a clean cotton swab into fresh onion juice and dab it directly on the affected skin area and allow it to dry naturally.
  • Another option is to apply a combination of one tablespoon of onion juice and two tablespoons of honey on the spots for about 20 minutes. If you have oily skin, you can add some vinegar in the solution as well.
