People of any age can have problems with blackheads on their skin, but most often it is an issue during the teenage and adolescent years. Blackheads commonly occur on the face, particularly the nose. They can also appear on the ears or anywhere else on the body. Two main causes of this problem are hormonal changes in the body and excessive use of cosmetic products.

There are many prescription medicines for the treatment of blackheads, but you can always try natural treatments. With simple ingredients easily found in most kitchens, you can treat your blackheads within a few days.

1. Baking Soda
Baking soda is an effective treatment for blackheads as well as acne. It helps clear the skin of impurities such as debris and dirt.

  1. Mix two teaspoons of baking soda with mineral water to make a paste.
  2. Apply the paste generously on the affected skin area and massage gently. Allow it to dry for a few minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
  3. Repeat this remedy once or twice a week.

2. Cinnamon
Cinnamon can be used to remove and prevent blackheads

  1. Mix one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and honey to form a thick paste.
  2. Apply the paste on the affected area before bed and leave it on overnight.
  3. In the morning, wash your face well with normal water. For best results, follow this remedy daily for about 10 days.

You can also mix one teaspoon each of cinnamon powder and lime juice with a pinch of turmeric powder (optional). Use this as a facial cleanser.

3. Oatmeal
The combination of oatmeal and yogurt is great for keeping your skin free of blackheads.

  1. Mix one teaspoon honey and the juice of four tomatoes in sufficient oatmeal to make a paste.
  2. Scrub it on your skin.
  3. Wash it off after 10 minutes.
  4. Repeat regularly for clear skin.

You can also make a paste by mixing together two tablespoons of oatmeal, three tablespoons of plain yogurt, and small amounts of lemon juice and olive oil. Apply the paste to your entire face, leave for a few minutes and then rinse your face with water.

4. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice, also used in acne treatment, can help remove blackheads. The nutrients and vitamins present in lemon juice are good for all skin types.

  1. Make a facial scrub by mixing lemon juice with salt, yogurt and honey. Gently scrub the affected area with this natural exfoliating mixture.
  2. You can also mix fresh lemon juice with milk or rosewater to create a facial cleanser. Use it daily for 10 to 12 days.

5. Green Tea
Green tea can also be used to treat blackheads.

  1. Mix one teaspoon of dry green tea leaves with a little water to make a paste.
  2. Gently scrub the paste over the affected area for two to three minutes. This scrub deep cleans oily skin and helps unclog pores.
  3. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

6. Honey
The balancing quality present in honey is good for both oily skin and blackheads. Honey hydrates as well as tightens the skin pores, giving you a clear complexion.

  1. Apply some pure honey on your face. Leave it on for about 10 minutes.
  2. Rinse your face with lukewarm water.

7. Turmeric
Turmeric, which works well for minor burns, can also be used to treat blackheads.

  1. Mix some turmeric powder with two tablespoons of mint juice. Apply it to the affected areas. Allow it to dry for a few minutes and then wash the area with lukewarm water.
  2. You can also make a thick paste by mixing red sandalwood, turmeric powder and milk together. Apply it on the affected area and after 10 minutes wash the skin with water.

8. Epsom Salt
Another effective and natural way to treat blackheads is Epsom salt.

  1. Mix one teaspoon of Epsom salt and a few drops of iodine in a little hot water until the salt dissolves completely. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
  2. Use a cotton ball to apply to the mixture on the affected area. Allow the mixture to dry.
  3. Use a clean washcloth to gently wash it off.

9. Cornmeal
Cornmeal acts as an abrasive to clean out dirt blocking the pores in your skin.

  1. Mix one tablespoon of powdered cornmeal with some of your regular facial cleanser.
  2. Before applying the mixture, use steam to help open the pores on your face. Then apply the mixture and gently massage it in a circular motion. Concentrate on the most affected areas.
  3. After a few minutes, rinse your face with cold water. This will help close the pores.

10. Fenugreek
One of the easiest and simplest natural remedies for blackheads is fenugreek.

  1. Make a thick paste by mixing fresh fenugreek leaves with a little water.
  2. Apply it on the affected area and allow it to dry for about 10 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  3. Use this remedy daily.

These remedies have helped many people eliminate blackheads. Most need to be used regularly for long-term results. If they do not work for you, you may want to consult a dermatologist.

9 Amazing Facts About Lemons You Should Know

9 Awesome Facts About Lemons You Should Know

lemon-beauty-uses-benefits

When we were kids, our introduction to lemons wasn’t so friendly. (It went something like this.) But now that we’re all grown up, we actually like the tangy flavor it adds to our recipes for chicken, cookies and, most importantly, cocktails.

But now our relationship with lemons has moved from the kitchen to the bathroom, as we incorporate the citrus fruit into our beauty regimen. Lemons are a great source of calcium, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium — minerals and antioxidants that improve the appearance and condition of our hair, skin and nails. So we present nine awesome uses for lemons you should know.

Tip: Keep in mind that lemon juice should not be left on the body for extended periods of time and may have severe reactions when exposed to the sun. Always consult with your doctor if you have any concerns.

1. They heal acne and remove blackheads. Lemons’ antibacterial and antifungal properties make them a natural alternative to treat acne. Simply slice open a lemon and rub it across your face. Or you can add a few drops of honey to a lemon half before applying it directly to the area where you have blackheads. Wait five to 10 minutes before rinsing off with cold water.

2. They lighten dark spots and blemishes. Acne scars and marks are embarrassing and a pain to get rid of. Lemon juice’s citric acid gradually fades spots and evens your skin tone. Be cautious of open wounds or cuts on the face, as it can sting real bad.

3. They whiten teeth. Professional teeth whitening treatments can cost a fortune. Save yourself a lot of money and time with a homemade teeth whitener using baking soda and lemon juice. Mix the two ingredients into a bubbly solution and put onto your teeth with a Q-tip. Leave on for no more than one minute (the acid is strong enough to break down tooth enamel) and gently scrub off with a toothbrush.

4. They get rid of oily skin. We’ve tested out some pretty weird ways to bring down the shine on our faces, including laxatives. But swiping a cotton swab with a little lemon juice is just as effective. Try doing this before bed and washing your face the next morning to prevent oily skin.3

5. They brighten your hair color. The cheapest highlights you’ll ever pay for involve making a trip to the grocery store to buy lemons. Combine lemon juice and hair conditioner, comb through strands, sit in the sun for a few hours and wash out. Repeat these steps at least once a week, and you will notice that your hair is significantly lighter.

6. They strengthen nails. There are tons of nail hardeners on the shelves at your local drugstore, but you can get the same results — and naturally — using olive oil and lemon juice. The solution will not only condition weak and brittle nails, but it will also whiten yellowing nails.

7. They calm dry scalp and remedy dandruff. We’re huge believers in DIY hair masks. Massaging a combination of household staples like coconut oil, olive oil and raw honey with lemon juice onto your scalp is a simple solution for dry scalp and dandruff.

8. They soothe chapped lips. Another overnight beauty treatment that only requires slicing open a lemon is an exfoliant for chapped lips. Rub the fruit onto your pucker, then wash off the next morning. The lemon juice will remove any dead skin cells so that your lipstick goes on super smooth.

9. They cleanse the face and body. If you’re unsure about what’s lurking inside your favorite face or body wash, you can always be certain with a homemade cleanser made out of lemon juice, yogurt and an essential oil like lavender or chamomile. Massage this on to remove dirt and bacteria, while moisturizing your skin at the same time.
